This group began over 20 years ago as a lunch meeting. Over the years we met several times a year to network and talk, with no real agenda. Five years ago we were approached by the Northern District Dental Society and the Georgia Dental Association to examine the possibility of a Diversity in Dentistry Group. We recognized the recent attention that the ADA has given to the subject of Diversity in Dentistry and decided to rename our group as the Georgia Dental Diversity Group. As the face of Dentistry changes, we must encourage different groups to get more involved in organized dentistry, and to understand the value of working with people of different ethnicity, color, and gender. With information we can reach out to students and dentists, and even better understand our patients.
